Choose to believe in the best version of yourself

You can choose to live in a place of fear, a place where you doubt who you are and what you are capable of, or you can choose to believe in the best version of yourself.

Mac Taylor, CSI New York

We shall never cease from exploration

We shall never cease from exploration

And the end of our exploring

Will be to arrive where we started

And know the place for the first time

Commitment is active, not passive

Commitment is active, not passive. Commitment is doing whatever you can to bring about the desired result. Anything less is half-hearted.

Just for Today

Just for today I will try to live through this day only and not tackle my whole life’s problems at once.

I can do something for twelve hours that would appal me if I felt I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for today I will be happy. Most folk are as happy as they make up their minds to be.

Just for today I will adjust myself to what is and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my ‘luck’ as it comes and fit myself to it.

Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind; I will study, I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.

Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways:

I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out and if anybody knows of it it will not count.

I will do at least two things that I don’t want to do just for the exercise.

I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt – they may be hurt but today I will not show it.

Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can. I will dress becomingly, talk low, act courteously, criticise not one bit, not find fault with anything and not try to improve or regulate anybody other than myself.

Just for today I will have a programme. I may not follow it exactly but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests – worry and indecision.

Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective on my life.

Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.

Impossible is just a big word thrown about by small men……

Impossible is just a big word thrown about by small men who find it easier to live in the world they have been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It is an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It is a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

‘One can’t believe impossible things’ by Lewis Carol

‘One can’t believe impossible things’ said Alice.

‘I daresay you haven’t had much practice’ said the Queen.

‘When I was your age I always did it for half an hour a day. Why sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.’

White Queen, Through the Looking Glass, 1872

Fear, which is but an impression by Yann Martel

You dismiss your last allies: hope and trust. There, you’ve defeated yourself. Fear, which is but an impression, has triumphed over you. The matter is difficult to put into words. For fear, real fear, such as shakes you to your foundation, such as you feel when you are brought face to face with your mortal end, nestles in your memory like a gangrene; it seeks to rot everything, even the words with which to speak of it. So you must fight hard to express it. You must fight hard to shine the light of words upon it. Because if you don’t, if your fear becomes a wordless darkness that you avoid, perhaps even manage to forget, you open yourself up to further attacks of fear because you never truly fought the opponent who defeated you.

Yann Martell

The Life Of Pi

Success by Ralph Waldo Emerson

To laugh often and much

To win the respect of intelligent people

And the affection of children.

To earn the appreciation of honest critics

To endure the betrayal of false friends,

To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others,

To leave the world a bit better,

Whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, a redeemed social condition.

To know even one life has breathed easier because you lived,

This is to have succeeded.

An Autobiography in Five Chapters by Portia Nelson

An Autobiography in Chapters by Portia Nelson

Chapter One

As I walk down the street,

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I fall in.

I am lost…I am hopeless.

It isn’t my fault.

It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter Two

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I pretend I don’t see it.

I fall in again.

I can’t believe I am in the same place.

But it isn’t my fault.

It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter Three.

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I see it is there.

I still fall in…it’s a habit.

My eyes are open. I know where I am.

It is MY fault.

I get out immediately.

Chapter Four

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I walk around it.

Chapter Five

I walk down another street.

Whatever you see, hear and experience in the world

Whatever you see, hear and experience in the world around you is a reflection of yourself. How you experience the world is a constant monitor of how you have been thinking about yourself and others. Knowing this, you can never blame anyone else for what happens in your life. It’s called taking responsibility. Do it and you will truly be on your way to spiritual evolution.
