My Story
What’s the opposite of a go to person? I’m not sure I know, but whatever it is that was me 20 years ago.
I can remember being in the audience at the UK FitPro convention in 2002. I was one personal trainer in an audience of thousands.
I wasn’t any different from anybody else; I didn’t have a USP, what I now refer to as a point of difference. I was a good Trainer but I didn’t stand out; there was no reason why anybody would hire me rather than another Trainer. No reason at all.
Not only was I frustrated. I knew I was capable of being a presenter alongside my peers, and I wanted to be on that stage so badly, but what could I present?
What I didn’t know was that my life was about to change beyond recognition. Not only would I be on that stage presenting two years later in 2004, I would be invited to speak at fitness conventions in New York, on the Gold Coast in Australia and in Toronto , Canada.
What happened? NLP happened. My then coach Wendy Jago suggested I sign up for an NLP practitioner course - to help me support my more challenging Clients - and the rest, as they say, is history.
Between coffee and lunch on day one I decided I was going to write a course called 'NLP for Fitness Professionals'. To say I had experienced a lightbulb moment would be an understatement; it was more like an entire fairground had lit up and swung into action.
I had found my thing. Or my thing had found me. My USP. My point of difference.
And because I became a regular feature on the international stage my 1:1 Coaching business soared with my reputation. I was able to fulfil a lifelong dream and relocated to the Greek Islands to run my 1:1 Coaching business Wellbeing Holidays. I was offering transformational Retreats 20 years ago and regularly featured in the press.
I know how it feels to blend into the crowd. That’s why I’m passionate about teaching other coaches NLP not only so that they become better coaches but so that they have a point of difference that they can shout about from the rooftops.
